Description
This two-day workshop is divided into six topic areas. The topics focus on critical practical issues that you will face in your business and are presented by experienced practitioners.
You will have an opportunity to work in groups, share ideas, and engage in discussion with the presenters and other participants. The emphasis is on providing you with the best possible opportunity to establish a successful practice.
DAY ONE
Topic 1: Your public practice
This topic considers the motivations and goals of individuals entering public practice. It also examines the attributes, time management skills, and responsibilities required.
Topic 2: Strategic and business planning
Discuss the importance of strategic and business planning in your practice. Develop public practice business plan objectives and action plans.
Topic 3: Financial issues in establishing a practice and calculating charge out rates
This topic covers financial issues when starting a new practice or buying into an existing practice. The session includes worked examples and tasks to help you calculate charge out rates.
DAY TWO
Topic 4: Ethics
An interactive group discussion on ethical issues confronting public practitioners, based on several ethical case studies.
Topic 5: Risk management in your practice
This topic emphasises the importance of risk management in your practice. It looks at risks facing public practitioners and how to develop rigorous policies and procedures. The quality review process is also discussed.
Topic 6: Building and growing your practice
Learn how to design and implement a marketing plan to help you achieve your long term goals. You will also learn how to assess growth opportunities and their associated risks, and discuss promotional opportunities, branding, and KPIs.

Important note regarding attendance
For participants to successfully complete the course they must attend the full Public Practice Program Intensive workshop, including all topic presentations and the cocktail function for the full duration of the workshop. The cocktail function will run from 5.15PM -7.30PM on Day 1 of the workshop. Failure to attend may result in compulsory attendance at a future workshop for any sessions missed.

Audience
Members who are CPA or FCPA and are enrolled in or have passed the distance learning component of the Public Practice Program.
