MYOL access to 2019 Public Practice Program Intensive will cease at midnight on 1 April 2020. Candidates enrolled will not be able to access any Public Practice Program Intensive materials from this date onwards.
CPD hours: 24 on successful completion of assessment components (16 for attendance)
This two-day workshop presented by experienced practitioners focuses on critical practical issues that you will face in the establishment, day-to-day and growth phases of your business. By the end of this workshop you will have created a real-life business plan that you can implement as you embark on the next stage of your career.

Session 1. Your Public Practice
Consider the motivations and goals of entering public practice. Examine the attributes, skills, and responsibilities required of a successful practitioner.
Session 2. Strategic Business Planning
Analyse the importance of strategic and business planning within your practice and commence the first stage of constructing your individual business plan.
Session 3. Financial Considerations for Your Practice
Explore the financial issues you will encounter when starting a new practice or buying into an existing practice, and learn how to implement value based fees.
Session 4. Growing Your Business
Design and implement a marketing plan to help you achieve your long term business goals. Learn how to assess growth opportunities and risks, discuss promotional opportunities, branding, and set targeted key performance indicators (KPIs) for your business.
Session 5. Ethics, Quality Controls, Risk Management
Examine the many ethical dilemmas facing accountants in public practice today and emphasises the importance of risk management in your practice. Understand CPA Australia’s quality review process.

Important note regarding attendance
To successfully complete the course candidates must attend the full program, including all topic presentations and the cocktail function. The cocktail function will run from 5.15PM -7.30PM on Day 1 of the workshop. Failure to attend may result in compulsory attendance at a future workshop for any sessions missed.
Assessment
The Public Practice Program Intensive workshop comprises three assessment components which candidates must successfully complete to pass the Public Practice Program and apply for their CPA Australia Public Practice Certificate. These are
- A pre-attendance questionnaire (must be completed 5 business days prior to the workshop)
- An ethics exam (multiple choice)
- Development of your strategic business plan (post class)
Candidates enrolled into this workshop are bound by the Rules and Regulations governing the program.
Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop, you should be able to;
- develop a strategic business plan & marketing plan to establish and grow your business
- develop pricing strategies for charging clients whilst ensuring the financial viability of your practice
- consider the ethical issues affecting public practitioners
- ensure you establish a robust risk management strategy to manage any challenge/issue which may arise
- establish and/or grow your professional network
Audience
Members who are CPA or FCPA and are enrolled in or have passed the distance learning component of the Public Practice Program.
